Do these things to have better 9–5 work life

I have been in corporate for more than 6 years now, I made many mistakes and eventually learned many things to make my daily work better.

  1. Have empathy – In my opinion, this is a very underrated quality anyone can have, in corporate and in real life, this skill will enable you to understand situations better from other people’s perspectives, but a lack of empathy will never let you develop meaningful relationships with anyone.
  2. Respect everyone – Respect everyone you work with, be it your senior or junior.
  3. Be very good at your primary skills and try to be an expert in those, and be open to learning new things whenever the opportunity comes up.
  4. Integrity – Do your work honestly, and try to finish the work assigned to you on time, being careless about work will slow down your growth and career, and make people think less of you.
  5. Genuinely help others – Try to help as much as possible to other peers, help genuinely, it will benefit you in many different ways like you will also learn something from it, and they will happily help you back when you need it.
  6. Ask for help – Having issues and not knowing what to do is very common it happens to everyone, always try to highlight the blockers your are facing as soon as possible. My mantra is if you are stuck on something for more than 2 hrs call for help.
  7. Be professional – Being professional is very important and it proves your sincerity to the job. Plan your leaves better, don’t create dependency and block someone else’s work. Take full accountability for your work.
  8. Learn to say no – Don’t take anyone for granted and don’t let anyone take you for granted, have a healthy work-life balance. Say no to unreasonable expectations.
